Dunk It!
Last Saturday, I helped my friend, Zengrong the Treehugger to cover the Dunk It! event where youths go around town to spread the message of proper rubbish disposal. To cut things short, it was a tiring but invigorating time thanks to all the positive energy from all these youths.
A little bit about Dunk It!
Dunk It!
At most major celebrations held outdoors, we tend to neglect to maintain the cleanliness of the venues. Once the crowd disperses, we see a filthy and unsightly environment that will be left to someone else to clean up.
So an initiative was started with ECO Singapore to encourage the public to refrain from littering and instead hold on to their trash until they can find a litter bin to dispose of them. In 2006 and 2007, this initiative significantly reduced a the amount of rubbish left behind by the spectators of the National Day Parades.
This year, the initiative hopes to maintain the momentum and continue to promote public awareness on the environmental impact left behind by the NDP audience. Through interaction with the public, teams of students brought across the message of proper rubbish disposal.
So if you are out celebrating, be it National Day or the Hungry Ghost Festival, remember: hold on to your trash and only throw it into a bin!
