Some weekends back, some friends and I went back to Geylang Bahru to visit some of the residents as a follow-up from the Christmas caroling "operation" we undertook last year. Seeing them have so much hope and joy was especially encouraging during these times of uncertainty. It undoubtedly makes one rethink his priorities and what one's joy should be based upon. Xinzhan wears a social-repellent T-shirt.
Lighting is achieved with a SB-900 held outstretched 45 degrees on my left hand (i.e. camera left) fired at +2 EV setting while the background is darkened by setting -1 EV on the camera.
Same -1 EV setting on the camera and +2 EV for the remote flash 45 degrees from a high angle on camera right.
2 Wiimotes were good, 4 would be a riot!
...and I like to think some were high on Bailey's. :p
Self Portrait (sort of)
I took a shot of my shadow as a reminder to myself about the use and exploitation of light and shadows while taking pictures. Good compositions have probably been missed and ruined once too many because of bad lighting, be it low light conditions, poorly positioned strobes and most definitely laziness and lack of thought.
The arrow also reminds that I need to know how to work with lighting so that my level of photography can move up.
After our session at the Mind Cafe and the brief glimpse of the National Day fireworks, we moved on to the National Museum for a group portrait session.
First up, I set up a single speedlight unit just behind Eugenia and Liyan to light up the arch, David. It also gave the ladies a nice subtle highlight. Unfortunately, I didn't have the equipment to eliminate David's shadow being cast upwards.
In the same set up, I took shots for a few other pals. Here is Aaron and his brother Justin.
We moved on towards the back of the museum. Nothing technical about the lighting for this picture, I was just playing with composition.
Made this fun composition with everyone (except myself) messing around with the headphones.

Neil was back briefly from Guangzhou and we gathered on National Day for some catching up at The Mind Cafe around Beach Road before heading off to catch a glimpse of the fireworks.
